The Blind Bear
Expanding The Blind Bear’s identity into a bold and playful brand system across venue, digital, and merchandise.
The Blind Bear is a speakeasy-style bar in Cronulla, Australia, known for its dark interiors, playful attitude, and strong local following. I was tasked with expanding the brand into a cohesive visual system across in-venue POS, social media, merchandise, and a new website. While the venue had a strong personality, the brand lacked a consistent visual system. The goal was to expand the identity while capturing the speakeasy atmosphere, creating a flexible framework for posters and stationery that also reflected its American-style comfort food and eclectic interiors.
By spending time with the operators and bartenders and getting to know the space, I developed a visual language that leaned into the bar’s playful, slightly mysterious character. The new identity was rolled out across POS, merchandise, and a website I designed and built to reflect the same tone and atmosphere of the venue.
Alongside the design work, I helped establish a tone of voice that felt distinctly local, familiar and grounded in storytelling, capturing the feeling of being spoken to by the bartenders behind the bar. I continue to work closely with The Blind Bear on ongoing social media and content creation, defining the visual direction for imagery and short-form video while collaborating with photographers to maintain a consistent and recognisable presence across the venue’s digital channels.
